No matter where you happen to have your blog, whether it be here on Live Spaces or some other blogging site such as Blogger or LiveJournal, you can encourage more people to take the time to read it by making it both easy to on the eye and attractive to look at.  Just by using Windows Live Writer available from here, you can really make your blog a popular place for others to visit and more importantly take the time to digest all of its contents.

Loads of Fonts to try!

Firstly, you need to make sure that your blog is easy to read for everyone who might want to access it, and the choice and size of fonts that you use can go some way to  achieving this.   In Windows Live Writer you have a very good choice of different fonts which can be found under the FORMAT tab and also from the Compose bar at the top of the Compose screen.   So click on the FORMAT tab and select Font, then try different ones to see the which you like best.  Do remember though that if you want people to continue to read your blog, you do need to make quite sure that it is easily readable by your intended audience.  Some fonts are much easier on the eye than others, but you can easily try them all if you want to in WLW just to see which ones look better and in particular suit your chosen themes background colour.

Customize your colours

You can also alter the colour of your fonts from this list as well, but keep in mind the readability of the colour that you choose here when placed inside your blog.    Is it easy to read or does it get lost in the background?  Yellow text on a green background might seem cool, but don’t be surprised if no one reads it!  Don’t like any of the default colours listed?  Then create some custom colours to use as its so easy to do in the Custom colours screen.

Of course this is one of the main advantages of using Windows Live Writer .  Because you are composing your blog on your computer before uploading it to your Space/Blog site, then you are easily able to try different things out until you are satisfied!  You can adjust how often  Windows Live Writer  saves your composition whilst you are trying different things out.  Just click on the TOOLS tab in the toolbar and then select EDITING.  Then make sure that Automatically save drafts is ticked and choose how often you would like Windows Live Writer to automatically save your post to Drafts by changing the time in minutes.

Once you are happy that you have selected the most attractive and easily readable fonts for your post, then you can begin to compose your blog.  Here are some examples of my favourite fonts and also some different colours to illustrate the points and tips made in this post and to show how some are very readable whilst others are not.

As you can plainly see here, some work better than others and although the script type of fonts do look fantastic, they can tend to be hard to read.  Also notice the word in red and how hard it is on the eyes!  Test them all yourself inside Windows Live Writer  and also try them in different colours, and see which ones work best in your own Space.  You don’t have to stick to the same boring old font every time, and you can even change the font during the same post.  Want to highlight a particular word inside your blog?  No problem!  Just choose the word by holding down your left mouse button to highlight it, then either make it bold by clicking on B on the Compose bar, and/or underline the word by clicking on U.  Or you could ring the changes by making it Italic instead.  It all helps to make your blog much more attractive and interesting to read.

Do try all of these out inside Windows Live Writer.  You can’t break anything and you will be taking the first steps to making your posts to your blog far more attractive and readable and that is surely a good thing!
