Microsoft® My Phone syncs information between your mobile phone and the web, enabling you to:
- Back up and restore your phone's information to a password-protected web site
- Access and update your contacts and appointments through your web account
- Share photos on your phone with family and friends
I’ve just been looking this My Phone thing. Yes it’s a good step forward for Windows Mobile devices. As so many Windows Mobile devices out there, aren’t synchronised via Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Centre. So the lost of the device can mean a total loss of your data.
So enter My Phone, yet another Microsoft sync/storage system? We have Live for Mobile, Live Mesh, Live Mesh for Mobile, Live Sync and Skydrive. All very good applications with there own particular focus. However I’m now starting to think where is my data synchronising to now!? Is it just me or is part of the goal of the Live services, is just starting to fragment.
Windows Live for Mobile already can back up and restore your email/contacts “Over The Air”. Appointments/Calendar has been the gapping hole in Windows Live for mobile. It’s been wished for in many forums by mobile users for a long time, just never appeared.
Let’s build on what users have and are use too, and add in the missing pieces. Not yet another extra application to worry about. In my years of training the end users and building solutions. These applications are just seen as one “thing” by end users. So adding another application just causes confusion. When the real aim is to simplify and there possible for it to be translucent to the end users.
So add to Windows Live for Mobile the missing calendar sync option. Bring in Live Mesh for mobile as it can already do the “Share photos on your phone with family and friends“, it just needs pointing to the “Skydrive Cloud” not the “Mesh Cloud”.
I seriously cannot be the only one thinking this. How about the Clubhouse members?
