I’m sharing this story to possibly save you some time, which is money, about a problem I had with “My new computer’s modem is not Working!” I purchased a new Toshiba laptop Computer and “I used Easy Transfer and USB flash
drives to get all the information off of my old computer.” I know that I Think Differently! “I was content with my old computer and the Windows XP that it ran until I got a hold of this new one and start using Windows Vista.” “I just love my new computer and the Vista operating system that I’m using today. This coming from a guy who doesn’t adjust to change very well at all, but what can I say, “I’m sold on Vista! I just love it!”
My Introduction to Windows Vista has been going along just fine and I have been posting the Emails
I have received from Microsoft. Learning about using the new Windows Vista operating system has really been a lot of fun. I wrote this story about My history with Computers! Just to give you an idea of my knowledge about using them. I wrote about Remembering Dial-up Internet! and said, “I’m going to see if I can get this new computer’s modem to work and set up my AT&T account.”
On Saint Patrick’s Day I said, “My modem on my new computer doesn’t work. The Worldnet technician told me to contact Toshiba support about the errors I’m receive when I try to connect to the Internet with my phone modem.” After talking to
the Toshiba support technician he said that I needed to talk to Worldnet support again because there was nothing wrong with my computer’s modem. But I still couldn’t connect to the Internet with my new computer.
I was in a catch 22 between the AT&T Worldnet technical support and the Toshiba technical support. Both technicians did their jobs but didn’t solve my problem. I didn’t know where to turn next to get my modem working. The solution to my problem was easy, and I wanted to share this story with all of you. So that maybe this story can save just one person the trouble of what I’ve been going through over these past few days.
Here is what I did: Click Start / Control Panel / Network and Sharing Center…Then on the left side of the pop up window
under Tasks click Set up a connection or network. Click Set up a dial-up connection and fill out the information that your Internet Service Provider has given you…I did that and my modem worked. Now I still don’t know what the real problem was with my modem, but it is working now.
I did send the error information (which was error #691 and #619 username and password invalid) to Microsoft. I think that it had something to do with the easy transfer of my modem’s information from my XP computer to my Vista computer. But that’s just what I think, I don’t really know for sure what really happened.
I am posting this under the new challenge that Marcus made at the Clubhouse. The Challenge: Saving Time and Money because we all know that saving time is saving money. There is much more to a company’s reputation than time or money, and that is taking care of the customer. I feel like if either one of these two technicians in my story today would’ve taken the time to really solve the problem with my modem instead of blaming it on the other company that I would’ve greater respect for the two companies involved.
I am so happy today that my modem is working!
Thanks for Listening,
Jeff
