Here is now to solve error code 8e5e0713 when you try to sign in to Messenger.  In short, you have to configure your firewall correctly.  Let’s have a look at the single steps.

  • Check your firewall settings.  Messenger should be white-listed there to work properly.
    • If you are using Windows Firewall, try the following.
      • Windows XP:
Click Start, Control Panel, Windows Firewall.
      • Windows Vista or Windows 7:
Click Start, Control Panel, Security, Windows Firewall, Change settings.
    • Switch to the Exceptions tab and check if there is a checked entry Windows Live Messenger.  If there isn’t any, check the checkbox, adding Messenger as exception.
    • Now click OK, and try to sign in to Messenger.
  • If it still doesn’t work, you will have to re-install Messenger.
    • First uninstall Messenger. Being a Windows XP user, do this:
      • Click Start, Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs.
      • A list of installed applications appears.
      • Click Windows Live Essentials, and choose Change/Uninstall.
      • A wizard for uninstalling Messenger opens.
    • If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, uninstalling works like this:
      • Click Start, Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall program.
      • A list of installed applications appears.
      • Click Windows Live Essentials, and choose Change/Uninstall.
      • A wizard for uninstalling Messenger opens.
