In the last post I demonstrated how to insert a picture into the text of your blog to both help illustrate your post and also make it look far more attractive and interesting to your intended readers. However, Windows Live Writer allows you to do much more with your photographs and pictures that you might want to include in your blog.

First of all, once you have decided which picture or photograph you want to include you might want to resize it because either you feel it is too small or too large for the text.  So lets resize a picture that we might want to include in our blog.  I will use the picture that I included inside my last post in order to illustrate this.

Looking out over the Loch

Here is the photograph set on the left hand side of my text.  So lets now make it much larger.  Click on the photo in order to bring up the picture menu on the right hand side of the compose screen, then click on the ADVANCED tab.  Under the SIZE menu, you will see that the current size is set to SMALL and it will state the current width and height.  Also take note the LOCK RATIO choice below the current size boxes.  This is ticked by default.  Lets change the size of the photograph by altering the number in the HEIGHT box.

In my particular case this is 180 so I am going to click inside the box, delete this number and then type into the box 300, then press return.  The picture has now been made larger and my text has then been adjusted to allow for the new size.  Because the LOCK  RATIO is ticked, the number in the WIDTH  box has also been automatically altered to keep the complete ratio of the photograph constant.

Now its much larger

Now let’s put a border around the  photograph to both accentuate it and make it look like a photo.

Click on the photograph to bring up the picture menu, and under BORDERS, click on the small black arrow on the right hand side of the choices for borders which will currently be set to DROP SHADOW by default.

You can then see plenty of choices of different BORDERS for your picture.  I will choose the PHOTOPAPER one, but you really should try them all and see the effect that it has on your own particular picture.  You can always choose NONE if you don’t like the look of a border.  Well I am satisfied with that look so I will leave the photograph as it is.

Another very attractive effect that looks really good is to actually TILT the picture inside your post, so click on your picture to bring up the picture menu, then click on the ADVANCED tab and underneath ACTIONS you will see TILT.  Once you click on TILT a small box will pop up which contains a slider control which is currently set at zero.

Tilt box with slider By sliding either to the left or the right your picture will tilt inside your blog and your text will then adjust and move to make room!  If you change your mind and click on cancel, your picture will right itself again and the text will return to how it was before.  I chose to tilt the picture to 5 on the right hand side of the slider.  Yes that looks cool!  So now you know how to tilt your pictures inside your blog.  Next post we will run through some of the cool effects that you can apply to your pictures inside Windows Live Writer.
