Live Messenger
What’s all the hype about Windows Live Messenger? It is just about the coolest tool available on the Internet today and one that can be used as the Starting Point to all your communications around “Live” and the rest of the world!
With this wonderful application you can access your e-mail, share files with contacts, view your “Live Spaces” and a whole host of other features that we will take a more direct look at further into this post!
As we take a more detailed look at the inner workings of Live Messenger we will be working online with it so you can see how various things might act or look like while in a live mode!
Ok, now sit back and fasten your seat belt as this is going to be a very detailed and post!
Start It Up
First and foremost you must have a “Live ID” in order to make the messenger work! I am presuming that you do as you are a member of “Live Spaces”. Launch the application! There are several ways to do this I have mine nestled in on my RocketDock and merely click on the link to bring up my Live Messenger!
Ok, so I click on the little green men as seen on my RocketDock located on the right side of this illustration and choose to open my Live Messenger!
As you can see from the illustration above I have my Live Messenger configured to remember my name and password so that all I have to do is click “Sign In”!
Now it is all fired up and ready to go! Now we will take you into a new world and dimension of ultimate communications and other tools to keep you productive and organized all at the touch of a button and contained within one application!
What Does It Look Like
There are a few things you are going to see immediately when you sign into Messenger.
Ok, I have signed in to my handy Live Messenger and there are a few things that you will see immediately once you log into it!
Notice at the bottom right side of my illustration here it immediately tells me that I have new e-mail and brings up Windows Live Today. All of these are features that you can customize to how much you want to see when you log into the program. Those will be discussed further into the project here!
Never has any one application before given you the unlimited possibilities of performing a wide array of activities and functions as Live Messenger!
I Have Mail
I bet you are asking yourself exactly how did I know that? Well, let’s take a look at the “Big Picture” . If you will notice on the upper portion of my main Messenger window and on the left side is an envelope with (2) next to it, which indicates the number of new e-mails that I have for my reading enjoyment!
Knowing this I am going to go ahead and click on the envelope so that I can see who sent me some mail. Since I utilize “Live Mail” when I do click on the icon it will open my Live Mail Application so I can read my e-mail.
Wow, that was wonderful ….I had just received an e-mail from Marcus who is the Community Manager for Microsoft’s Community Clubhouse indicating he willingness to help me meet a need of mine!
One of the many wonderful things about Live Messenger is that all the time while you are signed on you will have immediate knowledge of when you receive e-mails and can even set it up to keep you informed of notification’s from “Live Spaces”. However, that end of it must be configured directly through your settings within Live Spaces.
By having my Live Messenger running in the background nearly 100% of the time allows me to have immediate knowledge of when someone sends me something whether it is an e-mail, file sharing, voice call and a lot of other incredible features. As with any Microsoft product and application this one ties into a whole world of emerging possibilities.
Basic Elements
As noted above there is a whole wide array of areas that your Live Messenger can take you into!
What you are looking at here is a blown up visual of the toolbar that is located in your Live Messenger! Notice that there are several Icons on it! We will be taking a closer look at what each of them means and how they operate! You will learn how to do things such as share files, add new contact’s, make PC phone calls and even send SMS Text Messages directly to someone’s mobile phone to get them information they are in need of now!
This is the mail button! As described above you can click on this and it will take you directly to your e-mail. Whether you utilize Live Mail or Hotmail as your account provider it will take you directly to it or open the application on your desktop for you!
Clicking on this button will allow you to set up and share folder’s with various contact’s that you already have on your Messenger application. This is a very useful feature as you can select individual files or folders from your computer to share with another person!
Probably one of the most frequently used buttons on my Messenger as by clicking on it will take you directly into your “Live Spaces” site. So once I get notification that one of my friend’s has sent me something I can click on it to view it immediately.
By clicking here you have immediate access to what is HOT in Live Today! Get a quick look at your weather, news headlines and other useful information all a quick glance. You can customize it to deliver the information you want to see the most of!
Now you can make a phone call directly from your PC using Live Messenger! Talk about having the world of communication at your fingertips. This just goes to prove it and so much more! We will talk about this feature in a more in depth view later!
Ever needed to send a text message to someone’s mobile phone? With Live Messenger you can do it even if you do not have a mobile phone yourself! All you need to know is their cell phone number and you are then capable to send an Instant Message for them to get now!
So you want to change to color and appearance of your Live Messenger! This is the button that will enable you to do so!

How To’s and A Deeper Look Inside
Since “Live Messenger” is such an intense application that is paced with features galore, I will not post everything on this one post! What I am going to do is provide you with bits and pieces of informative and useful information into some of the more frequently used item’s with Live Messenger and I will post directly upon those subjects with a greater and more detailed description of the “How To’s”.
I have thought about doing more extensive postings on this but am still trying to decide if I want to actually post or if I want to create the series in a Word Document and link to it in my SkyDrive. I want you, my friends and visitor’s, to tell me what would work best for you! Just know that all of the information will be jammed packed with useful information and visual details along every step of the way!
