Was reading the Windows Live team blog, when I came across a post about “A new way to get Hotmail on your phone”.  That there rolling out POP3 to Hotmail users in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands.  With more coming later this year.

So here a quick how-to for setting this up on a Windows Mobile Device

From any of your message folders.  Tap on “Menu”, then tap on “Tools”, then tap on “New Account”.  Screen13
  • In the “E-mail address” box, enter your Windows Live ID for the Live Mail/Hotmail account that your wish to add.
  • In the “Password” box, enter your password for that Windows Live ID.
  • Tick the “Save password” box if you wish.
  • Then tap on “Next”

  • Ensure there is a tick next to “Try to get email settings automatically from the Internet”
  • Review the “Privacy Statement”
  • Then tap on “Next”

  • The “E-mail Setup” will take a few seconds while it gets the settings.
  • Then tap on “Next”

  • In the box “Your name”, enter what you wish the person receiving the email to see.
  • For the “Account display name”, if your going to have a few email account on your Windows Mobile device.  Change this to something to help you easily see which account is which on the account picker.
  • Then tap on “Next”

  • In the “User name” box, again enter your Windows Live ID that you used before.
  • In the “Password” box, enter your password for that Windows Live ID
  • Tick the “Save password” box if you wish
  • Then tap on “Next”

  • Select from the “Automatic Send/Receive” how often you wish to check for new messages.
  • Then tap on “Finish”
