Did you know that in the latest build of Windows Live Writer you can now add a video into your post directly from your computer without leaving your desktop?  Yes it is now possible to insert a video file into Writer without having to first publish it to either Soapbox or YouTube!  Writer now does the whole thing automatically for you so that you don’t have to leave your desktop and the whole process is now so much easier.

If you already have a YouTube account then you may prefer to use that service, but Writer will help you to create a SOAPBOX account if you don’t already have one.  So, here is how you do it!

1. Click on Video on the right hand side of the Writer area in the INSERT list.

Click on Video

2. In the pop up window that appears, click on the FROM FILE tab at the top of the window.

3. You will then be given the choice of using either SOAPBOX or YOUTUBE to host your video file.  For this how to, I will use SOAPBOX.  If you already have an account on YOUTUBE then you may prefer to use that. For now let’s assume that you don’t have a VIDEO hosting account. So we will choose SOAPBOX.

4. Now click on the small dots inside the square to the right of the VIDEO FILE window.

5. The video files stored on your computer will then be shown so that you can choose the file that you wish to insert into your post. So just click on one of the files. Its name will then be loaded into the set up page.

The title of the file will be added and you can also add under which category the video fits, add permissions for who can view the video and also you must sign the SOAPBOX terms of use here as well.

Title is now chosen, choose catagories and permissions

Once all of the fields are filled in, then just click on the INSERT tab at the bottom, and then your video file will be firstly uploaded to SOAPBOX, and then once SOAPBOX has processed the video, it will be completed and you are then free to publish to your Space complete with the included VIDEO file!  Note here that this can take some time so please be patient!
