There is a lively discussion going on over at the LiveSoapBox group discussion regarding a change that isn’t so good. This post is meant to bring those changes to the attention of the powers that be so they can hopefully restore the deleted functionality.

We all have a Network section on our Profile page, and on the Profile or Home page we have links to other people. But, what if you want to go to a friend's Profile and they don't happen to be showing on either of those pages?

I used to go to "People" from the header section of the Profile page and then click their icon. The first item in the dropdown list was "View Profile" as we are used to seeing it everywhere when you click on someone's icon. But since the latest updates it's gone.

So, since so many people were upset  and very vocal about not having a "View Space" option when clicking an icon (from Messenger and elsewhere) and having to go to the Profile first, I wondered if anyone else was upset like I am that we no longer have a "View Profile" in some places. So, it's now becoming inconsistent appearing in some places and not others.

There is a work around. It's kind of like having to click "View Profile" first in order to then click "Space" to see someone's Space. Now, while in People or Network you must first "View Contact Info" and then from there click "View Profile" (and then from there click "Space"). You can also click there name to go straight to the contact info and then "View Profile." I'm not sure a newbie could figure this out. It's just a bad design or oversight!

I have trouble with the purpose of this. This seems inconsistent with the dropdowns everywhere else for a person's icon. I find having to jump through hoops awkward and pointless. Am I missing some good reason why they did this?

And, since no one is making a big uproar over this (well, except me! :) I am assuming you are all doing this operation some other way that I have missed. Fill me in. Let me know how you are doing this.

If I wanted to get to X-Evolutionist’s Space, and she happens to not be appearing in the eight avatar/icons/tiles/pictures of users on my Profile page, and assuming she has been on vacation so there are no entries for her on my Home page, and assuming that I haven’t done anything like left comments or notes regarding her, and I have in general no direct link to her profile from my Home Page or my Profile page or my Space then I would normally go to “People” shown boxed at the top in red and look her up. I used to be able to see a “View Profile” as the first in the dropdown show below. Mine only has these three options. Are you able to see more than this? Can you see “View Profile?” It used to be here. It would be nice to have “View space” here also, but that’s for another day.

 

I am having to select “View contact info” now, and then from there I can pick the link to “View profile.” You can also click the person’s name. If you aren’t having to do this, then are you seeing “View profile” in the lower red box above or do you have another way of doing this?
