Many of you probably noticed when you recently logged into your Hotmail account the few nice big changes in a few parts of Hotmail, especially while composing a new message and your inbox view. The two main changes that are visible is the addition to the ‘Quick Add’ when composing messages and the ad placement getting moved to the right side of the page instead of the top. Another great feature that everyone was eager to see was the release of unlimited storage space, which allowed users to no longer worry about deleting emails that could possibly be important in the future.
The main discussion now is the controversy over the ad being moved from the top of the page to the right side. There is a wide range of negative comments being made about the change, even though the change was made due to the negative comments from the ad being on the top of the page. Which has led to Hotmail to yet again weight out the options for the ad placement.
I actively participate in the Windows Live Help Center and recently there was a big discussion regarding the ad placement on the right side. Many felt it took up to much space and ruined much of their email experience. Of course no one enjoys seeing an ad while they are reading their emails but that is what keeps your emails available and helps cover the charges for you to access your email free. Of course you could always upgrade to Hotmail Plus in order to get rid of the ads and get some of the extra added benefits of being a Hotmail Plus subscriber.
There are many ways that you can still use Hotmail on smaller computer screens even with the ad on the right side. You can shut off your reading pane or move the reading pane to the bottom so you have more room to read your emails than when the reading pane is on the right side. Many complained about not being able to read their emails correctly but this is all due to how the reading pane settings are set. Windows Live Hotmail is currently looking into other possibilities for ad placement so that it will make the reading pane more versatile again and keeping the functionality to the highest degree possible for all computer settings.
I would like to get an idea who prefers the advertisement on the top, on the right, or if it doesn’t really matter to you because it works either way. If you wouldn’t mind leaving a comment with your thoughts and ideas I would appreciate it because I don’t think the thread from the Windows Live Help Center is able to effectively portray the thoughts of all individuals using Hotmail. Thanks so much!
