I’ve been running Live Mesh on Vista for a long while now. Once again I was lucky to get in on a pre-beta version, this time for Live Mesh for mobile. Live Mesh for mobile, as the name suggests is the Windows Mobile version of the Live Mesh. The desktop version of Live Mesh is currently available to everyone as public beta version. However the mobile version is not yet publicly available, as it’s currently a “Tech Preview”
The Live Mesh for Mobile is visually a simple application. It just gets on the job of synchronising your files and folders. As you can see from the screenshot on the right. The main screen on Live Mesh for Mobile, just lists your Live Mesh folders. That you currently active with in Live Mesh. Here I’ve got two folders that are synchronising with Live Mesh from my Windows Mobile. The third folder “My Weblog Post”, is the Live Mesh folder for Live Writer. So all my posts, are synchronised between my two main PC’s. The top two folders, are the one’s of interest. There the “My Documents” folder from the main memory of my Windows Mobile device, and the My Documents folder on the Micro SD card. I’ve configured all the application on the device, to either save to the “My Documents” in the main memory or the storage card. So for instance, if I take a new picture. The camera software saves the picture in “My Documents\My Pictures” on the Micro SD card. Which is not an out of the ordinary type of setup, on a Windows Mobile device. However once the picture has been taken and saved. Is where Live Mesh for Mobile comes in to play. | | With in the settings of Live Mesh, you have the six options for how or when your device will synchronise with Live Mesh. The “Manually” option, will only synchronise your selected folders. If you select “Sync Live Mesh” from the Menu with in Mesh. The other options, “As local folders are updated” so as there’s a change to items with in the Mesh folders on your device. Mesh will straight away start to synchronise the change. The rest of the options, will synchronise every 30 or 60 minutes, 2 or 4 hours. So once it’s been set up, Live Mesh just gets on with Synchronising your data. That have been changed within the selected folders, on and off your device. Keeping your device up to date, and your PC too! | | Just like to desktop version, via Internet Explorer on your device you can browse all your folders. That have been setup with Live Mesh. Add files, create new folders etc. Not just with the folders that are set to synchronise with your device, but any of the folders with your whole Live Mesh. Now your mobile is just as up to date, as your PC that are running Live Mesh! | | I don’t know when Live Mesh for Mobile, will be publicly available. However I can say for a pre-beta piece of software. It’s very stable when you have got it up and running. There is some room for improvements, in the setup on the mobile device, and adding folders from the mobile to your Live Mesh. For a pre-beta stage, it’s excellent and I cannot wait to see the final version of Live Mesh for Mobile! |
Finger crossed, I’ve resolved the display problems with this post!
