Despite the fact that I have posted about this feature before, I thought it would be nice to run through the procedure again for new users getting used to all of the features inside LIVE PHOTO GALLERY. I take a lot of shots now with my camera specifically aimed at this feature, so let’s run through what you need to do if you intend your shots to be part of a panoramic photo.
1. Take a picture with your camera which begins at one side of the intended panoramic view. So if taking a landscape for example, begin at the left or right of the view. See the pictures below to illustrate this.
2. Now slowly swing the camera either to the left or right depending on where you took the first shot, taking care that the second shot ‘overlaps’ the first one in content, and the third one overlaps the second and so on. NOTE. This is most important, as if you do not let the next shot contain some overlap of the subject, then the Panoramic program won’t be able to ‘stitch’ the content together.
3. When you swing your camera either to the left or right, try to keep the camera in exactly the same plane for every shot. This can take some practice to do, but do persevere as it then will require hardly any cropping to neaten when fixing the Panoramic photo.
4. Continue swinging the camera either left or right for each snap of the scene. You will need to take a minimum of two shots but I find that three or four work best depending on the subject. Of course if the picture content is a Vista or landscape scene that you are capturing, then the more shots the better.
5. Load all of your shots into WINDOWS PHOTO GALLERY.
6. Select the photos that you intend to use as your panoramic picture by ticking them. (They will turn blue to indicate that they have been selected.)
7. . Click on the MAKE tab at the top, and then choose CREATE A PANORAMIC PHOTO.
8. The program will then ‘stitch’ your chosen pictures into a PANORAMIC shot, and then you can give your finished PANORAMIC picture a name. Once the ‘stitching’ of your chosen pictures is complete, you may have to FIX it to neaten the sides for example. so
9. Select FIX from the top of the WINDOWS PHOTO GALLERY toolbar, then from the list on the right hand side select CROP.
10. Now drag the sides of the CROP area by clicking and holding the left mouse button when you see the up/down arrows and move the sides of the CROP area until all the uneven parts of the PANORAMIC photo are no longer included.
11. When you are quite happy that you have excluded the uneven sides, click on APPLY and the PANORAMIC photo will be neatened up.
12. You might also like to apply other FIXES to your completed PANORAMIC picture such as AUTO ADJUST, brighten it or apply some contrast for example. Once you are quite happy with your edited picture, then return to the GALLERY and your newly edited PANORAMIC creation will be saved.
Vast landscapes and VISTA’s lend themselves really well to this type of picture, but you can also apply it anywhere as was recently so ably demonstrated by seven year old Alexa HERE when she made one of her bedroom! So do try this brilliant feature out in WINDOWS LIVE PHOTO GALLERY won’t you?
